Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@dhglazingandrepairs.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question. We are more than happy too help!

It’s one of the most common calls we get after fitting new double (or triple) glazing: “I’ve just spent good money on new windows and now they’re steaming up – what’s gone wrong??”

99% of the time… nothing is wrong. Here’s what’s really happening:

1. New windows are TOO good at their job

  • Old single-glazed or tired double-glazed windows were draughty and let heat escape fast.
  • Your shiny new A++ rated windows keep nearly all the heat inside → the glass surface inside your room is now much warmer.
  • Warm air holds a lot more moisture than cold air. When that warm, moist air touches something slightly cooler (like the glass or the spacer bar), the moisture instantly condenses into tiny water droplets.

2. Typical places you’ll see it

  • Bottom edge of the glass (coldest part)
  • Around the spacer bar (the metal strip between the two panes)
  • On the room-side surface only (external condensation is rare and usually only happens on very clear nights)

3. It’s usually a sign of too much moisture in the house – not faulty windows

Common moisture culprits after a new install:

  • Drying plaster & screed from building/refurb work (can pump litres of water into the air for weeks)
  • New paint & carpets off-gassing
  • More showers, cooking, drying clothes indoors now it’s properly sealed
  • Fewer draughts = moisture can’t escape like it used to

4. How to get rid of it (and stop it coming back)

Quick fixes:

  • Wipe it off with a microfibre cloth – it’s just clean water
  • Open windows for 10–15 minutes a couple of times a day (trickle vents too!)
  • Run your extractor fans when cooking/showering
  • Use a dehumidifier for the first few weeks (you’ll be amazed how much water it collects)
  • Keep heating on low but constant rather than blasting it on/off

It usually settles down completely within 4–8 weeks once the house dries out and you get used to ventilating a properly sealed home.

5. When you SHOULD worry (very rare)

Give us a call if:

  • Condensation is BETWEEN the two panes of glass (means the seal has failed – covered under warranty)
  • Water is pooling in the bottom of the frame (drainage issue)

Otherwise, relax – a bit of temporary condensation is the clearest proof that your new windows are working brilliantly!

Yes – We are CERTASS registered and approved installers. Every installation also comes with an 10-year insurance-backed  guarantee. You’ll get your certificate by email within 2 weeks from installation if for any reason you do not receive your certificate please contact us and we will chase CERTASS for you.

Yes – We are covered for £5 million public liability. Certificate available on request.

No – typical terms: 40–60% deposit on ordering, Final balance due on the day of completion when you’re 100% happy.

We specialise in the repairs and installation of all window types, from traditional single-glazed frames to contemporary triple-glazed uPVC systems. For a comprehensive overview of our repairs and additional services we offer, please visit the dedicated section on our website.

We are happy to replace a single window if that meets your current needs. For customers opting for multiple window replacements, we offer attractive volume-based discounts. We will provide a detailed, itemised quotation allowing you to select exactly which window (or windows) you wish to proceed with.

Updating outdated double glazing is good because it:

  • Cuts heat loss by up to 40% → much lower energy bills
  • Switches from old, inefficient 1990s/2000s units (often 12–16 mm air gap, no low-E coating) to modern ones (warm-edge spacers, argon/krypton fill, low-E coatings) that can hit U-values as low as 1.0–1.2 W/m²K instead of 2.8+

You’ll feel warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and see the savings on your bills straight away.

All our quotations are provided on a strictly no-obligation basis and are entirely hassle-free. We do not employ high-pressure sales tactics or follow-up calls.

One of our experienced surveyors will visit at a time convenient to you, discuss your requirements in detail, and explore the most suitable options for your home. Following the survey, your fully itemised quotation will be emailed to you, allowing you to review it at your leisure.

Please note that, due to fluctuating material costs, all quotations remain valid for 30 days from the date of issue, after which they may be subject to repricing if required.

Usually 1–3 days for a typical semi-detached house. We remove and install one room at a time so you’re never left exposed overnight. All rubbish is taken daily too so you are always left with a clear space and clean home.

We carry most common parts on the vans. Most handle, hinge or lock repairs are done in within a hour. If we can not repair while onsite we will secure measure for the part secure the window and quote to repair you only pay for the work done so if we fix on the day then payment will be due if we just measure and secure this will all be part of the survey which we do for free!!

9 times out of 10 yes. We realign (“toe & heel”) we can also replace the door hinges/mechanisms and key barrel if needed – usually costing between £120–£250 depending on what's needed. Please note most hinges and locking mechanisms and key barrels will have to be ordered in. We will survey and provide a quotation for this.
